第四节 阅读理解(20题,每题2分,40分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

A

How often one hears children wishing they were grown-ups, and old people wishing they were young again. Each age has its pleasures and its pains, and the happiest person is the one who enjoys what each age gives him without wasting his time in useless regrets.

Childhood is a time when there are few responsibilities to make life difficult. If a child has good parents, he is fed, looked after and loved, whatever he may do. It is impossible that he will ever again in his life be given so much without having to do anything in return. In addition, life is always presenting new things to the child — things that have lost their interest for older people because they are too well-known. But a child has his parents. He is not so free to do what he wishes to do; he is continually being told not to do things or being punished for what he has done wrong. When the young man starts to earn his own living, he can no longer expect others to pay for his food, his clothes, and his room, but has to work if he wants to live comfortably.  If he spends most of his time playing about in the way that he used to as a child, he will go hungry. And if he breaks the laws of society as he used to break the laws of his parents, he may go to prison. If, however, he works hard, keeps out of trouble and has good health, he can have the great happiness of building up for himself his own position in society.

56. According to the second paragraph, the writer thinks that __.

    A. life for a child is comparatively easy

    B. has to be successful in finding a job

    C. can still ask for help in time of trouble

    D. should be able to take care of himself

58. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?

    A. People are often satisfied with their life.

    B. Life is less interesting for old people.

    C. Adults are free to do what they want to do.

    D. Adults should no longer rely on others.

59. The underlined word "responsibilities" in the second paragraph means__.

60. The main idea of the passage is __ .

    A. life is not enjoyable since each age has some pains

    B. young men can have the greatest happiness if they work hard

    C. childhood is the most enjoyable time in one's life

D. one is the happiest if he can make good use of each age in his life

They are not careful enough while they do their homework, so it takes them a lot of time. Some students spend too much time watching TV or playing computer games. They stay up very late. Some students have to get up early every morning on weekdays to get to school on time by bus of by bike . It can be a long way from home to school.    “Have you ever heard the old saying, “Never judge a book by its cover”? This is a good rule to follow when you try to judge the cleverness of others by their looks and performance. Some people have minds that shine only in certain situations. A young man with an unusual gift in novel writing may find himself speechless before a pretty girl. But don’t make the mistake of thinking he might not be that clever. With a pen and paper, he can tell what he thought very well.

Other people may fool you into mistakenly thinking they are clever by putting up a good front.

A student who listens carefully and takes notes in class is sure to make a good impression on his teachers. But when it comes to exams, he may get scores much lower than his classmates.

We may conclude that: you can’t judge someone by appearances. The only way to tell whether a person is clever or not is to get to know him by observing how he reacts to(反映)different situations. The more situations you observe, the more accurate(准确的)your judgement is likely to be. So take your time. Don’t judge the book by its cover.

71 The best title for this passage is___________________________

A. Judging cleverness                B. Choosing a book

C. A speechless young man           D. Putting up a good front

72 he main idea of the passage is ___________________

   A. is stupid              B. is a good student

请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。

注意:每个空格只填1个单词。
It is very sad to have a loved one go missing. One of the best ways to help people find a missing person is to print and hand out flyers (
广告传单). It will mean that people will keep an eye out for your missing family member, so it will increase your chances of finding him or her. What’s more, flyer printing is not expensive. Here are a few tips on how to make missing person flyers.

1. Look for the best possible picture of the person and place it in your flyer. It has to be a clear picture showing your loved one’s whole face and body. Print it as big as you like but make sure it is clear. The picture should give people the most correct description of your loved one. This will allow others to more ably recognize (
认出) your missing family member.

2. Describe how he or she looks, including his or her hair color, eyes, size, weight, height and any other information. Also add in detail like the last clothes he or she was seen wearing. It should help people get a better "picture" of your family member.

3. In terms of writing, try to be short and clear with your words. Not all people are able to pay attention, so your flyer must not be boring. It must give the details quickly and efficiently (
有效地) so that people remember the information.

4. Print your telephone or mobile number, street address, email address and any other ways you want people to contact (

Dear Li Hui,

I received your letter, and you said that you have some problems in your life. I am willing to offer you some advice. I hope you are able to do better in the future. About the English study you have mentioned, it is recommended that you improve your English by listening to English news and reading more English articles as they are all good methods for studying foreign languages. As to how to get along with the classmates, you should remember that kindness is very important. I believe that so long as you are kind, you will be able to make friends with all of your classmates. Lastly, I am told that you spend a lot of time surfing the Internet. Although the Internet can be very helpful in finding new information, you should make sure you don’t suffer any of the harmful effects of using it. I hope you find these suggestions useful. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua
